001. Lucky Seven from DF NY
House Numbers is a self-initiated project by Medium mediumism.com ? a small group of designers from both graphics and architecture who produce projects related to public space, and communication. 10 metal house numbers were produced from the artwork. As the house numbers go into double figures, each designer will be paired together in different combinations. The numbers was exhibited in the form of an outside exhibition in Stockholm by replacing all the existing house numbers
on a street.
Luckily, Default New York got number 7. Lucky Seven is a well-known term for both Western and Eastern cultures. Especially in Eastern culture, Lucky Seven roots from Seven Lucky Gods in Ancient Japanese, Chinese, and Indian mythology which were to symbolize the essential virtues of man in the 17th century. The seven virtues are: Candour (Ebisu), Fortune (Daikokuten), Amiability (Benzaiten), Magnanimity (Hotei), Popularity (Fukurokuju), Longevity (Juroujin), Dignity (Bishamonten). These positive messages are hidden in the generic form of the number 7 which works like a good luck charm on your front door. |
